Ella Orehek-Coddington is an Australian-Maltese mezzo-soprano from Sydney. She is currently studying an Advanced Diploma (Opera) at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Catherine Wyn-Rogers and Jonathan Papp. She will undertake this course as one of the Academy’s prestigious Bicentenary Scholars. She is also a recipient of the Tait Memorial Trust Thornton Foundation Award, Help Musicians’ Sybil Tutton Award, the Carr-Gregory Award, the Countess of Munster Trust, and the Ian Potter Cultural Trust Award. She is a member of the young artist scheme of the Accademia dell'Opera Italiana in London, and was a young artist of the Richard Wagner Scholarship in Bayreuth in August 2025.

Ella has previously been awarded a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, a Diploma of Language Studies from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Arts from the Royal Academy of Music. For an outstanding final Master’s recital, she was additionally awarded a Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music. Ella has undertaken a student exchange program with the Royal Northern College of Music. For her studies, Ella was awarded scholarships from both the Conservatorium and the Academy, as well as received funding from Creative Australia.

She has previously studied with Barry Ryan OAM and Janet Haney, and undertaken masterclasses with esteemed industry professionals including Susan Bullock CBE, Gerald Finley OC CBE, and David Miller AM.
Ella has performed the roles of die Mutter in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and Zweite Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte for the Royal Academy Opera, Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Mrs Grose in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, Juno in the world premiere in Australia and UK premiere at the Royal Academy of Music of Cousins’ Echo, the title role in Mascagni’s Zanetto, Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Juno in Handel’s Semele, Joas in Handel’s Athalia, Irene in Handel’s Theodora, La Feé in Viardot’s Cendrillon, Night & Juno in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, A Priestess in Gluck’s Iphégenie en Tauride, A Bridesmaid in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Suzie in Reeves’ Ever the Best of Friends. She has appeared as a soloist in Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Mozart’s Sparrow Mass. Next year, Ella’s roles with the Royal Academy Opera include the title role in Handel’s Rinaldo and Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. She will also interpret the role of Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice in the Royal Academy of Music’s Students Create Festival.
